The theoretical service life of pressed wire ropes is 10 years, or, in mileage, approximately twice the circumference of the Earth. This remains valid even when the vessel is not in operation.
The primary reason is that inside the pressing (i.e., at the contact point between the wire rope and the terminal) electrolysis occurs.
